Primary PE and Sport Premium is an initiative that aims to help increase and improve the PE and sporting opportunities for children. It was first provided in the 2013/14 academic year and the current government has pledged to continue this funding.
PE and Sport Premium funding is provided jointly by the Department for Education, the Department for Health and Culture and the Department for Media and Sport. It is allocated to all primary schools and is ring-fenced, meaning that it can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools.
We are delighted to announce that we, All Saints CofE Primary School, have achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Our sporting achievements this year include ensuring that every child in every class participated in a sport festival in every academic term. In addition, we have worked in partnership with Devon Cricket and Bikeability to develop cricket and cycling across the school. Many pupils have represented the school in competitive events, including cricket, athletics and cross country. Furthermore, we have participated in an inclusive Boccia festival.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our festival and competitions possible. Particular thanks are reserved for Damian Price (Devon Cricket), Nicky Cook (Bikeability), the staff and young sport leaders of Colyton Grammar School and the staff and young sport leaders of Axe Valley Academy. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
