Axminster Care Service

Axminster Care Service is a local charity, with an enthusiastic team of around 50 members, helping people registered, or in the area of Axminster Medical Practice, receive the care they need.

Axminster Care Service received a bequest from the late Douglas Hull specifically to set up a fund to support local school children with dyslexia who face challenges in their learning. Douglas was himself dyslexic and experienced difficulties during his school years. It was for this reason that Douglas felt strongly that our young people be supported in their learning, helping them overcome the challenges of dyslexia.

Axminster Care Service work closely with All Saints CofE Primary School and have provided support as follows:

  • Investment in ten Chromebooks, including Chromebook storage and associated set up costs;

  • Support with the cost of employing a teaching assistant to deliver weekly intervention with pupils;

  • Investment in dyslexia friendly texts for our school library;

  • Access to Nessy Reading and Spelling support for pupils;

  • Support with the cost of residential trips for pupils who are eligible for the Pupil Premium or are facing financial difficulties.

  • Hosting an author visit linked to Dementia
